Expectations
By Tressa Sanders
Hot sun rays kiss your skin
Downy cotton clouds fill your eyes as they dance by
The smell and feel of heat fills you with a deep, erotic, warmth
Illuminated beauty surrounds you
A beautiful day is what I’m expected to be
I, the thunderstorm
You are swimming in the sun’s rays
It’s life penetrating your being
My darkness looming in the background
Creeping slowly
Emerging like a thief in the night
I soak you with my tears and make you shiver
You only know the moment and forget this torrential down pour is temporary but necessary
I frighten you with my electric anger and earth shaking sobs
I have soaked up so much, I can’t hold it anymore
Darkened by my load
Never an invitation for release
My body says no more
I rain my acid on you
You ignore how I feed and clean the land
The good things
And how the rays you long for to darken your skin and brighten your day
Destroy the very essence of your composition
Robs you of your life fluids
Sunshine and storms both as necessary as the beating of our hearts
I am wished away
Sunshine and I are not one in the same
I float away as quickly as I’d come
Replaced by something less ugly
