I stumbled upon this article while I was doing some light research (googling)/google-ling?) to start work on my first attempt at a documentary. And I have to say this has been the most helpful so far.

Thanks for having this up. This will be my guide for the next couple months!

I'm very happy that my articles have been of use to you.

What is your documentary about?

All the clips on this site are from my work. You can find more info about my docs here as well: www.ijabafilms.com

I'm not sure about screenings. I have two docs I'm planning to enter into festivals but it depends on how quickly I can get them finished. :)

The Bowker website clearly states that those two companies do not report the author as the Publisher. Even if they did, reporting and owning are two different things. Both of those companies can decide to take the book out of print and there is nothing the Author can do about it.

Good ideas here, but there are just a few issues to clarify. First, the first part of an ISBN identifies the country, area or language area, so authors purchasing ISBNs from Japan should be aware of this fact. Second, while it's true that on-demand, non-traditional publishers typically report themselves as the publisher of record, it is not always the case. In fact, both Wordclay and Lulu offer ISBNs that report the author as the publisher (whatever company imprint name the author chooses).
